Scouts BSA Troop 3 has been going strong in Morrisville since 1911. We are one of the oldest troops in the nation. For over 110 years, Troop 3 has helped young men become responsible, participating citizens and leaders who are guided by the Scout Oath and Law.
We are excited to announce that in spring 2023, Morrisville Presbyterian Church will be chartering a Troop 3G for girls ages 10+ (but not yet 18). The addition of a female Scouts BSA troop means that now Morrisville scouting will now be available to serve all youth in our community.
Scouts meet weekly on Monday evenings from 7pm-8:30pm in Fellowship Hall at Morrisville Presbyterian Church. Meetings run from the Monday after Labor Day through late June.
During the weekly meetings, Scouts work on rank advancement, plan for upcoming camping trips, develop life skills, and work on merit badges. There are many opportunities for our Scouts to work on their leadership and Scouting skills throughout the year while building lifelong friendships.
Community Service is a Big Part of Scouting
While most of us have heard about the amazing Eagle projects being done in our community, did you also know that Scouts need to consistently provide community service for the Ranks of Tenderfoot, Second Class, First Class, and Star? There are also merit badges that have a service requirement, like Citizenship in the Community and Reading.
Some of our more well-known community service projects are canal clean-ups, raking leaves at Summeseat, placing flags for Memorial Day, Scouting for Food, and various flag ceremonies in our community.
What do Troop 3 Scouts do for Fun?
Well, they camp of course!
Most months, the troop will go on a weekend camping trip visiting Scout reservations, state parks, and other campgrounds within 2 hours of Morrisville. When school ends and summer begins, our Scouts are off to a week of summer camp to earn merit badges and other awards and build lasting friendships and memories.
Sometimes, Scouts participate in council-run camporees or Klondike, but most months the Scouts are planning their own outings.
Recent favorites have included a fishing trip to Horseshoe Scout Reservation; a fall hiking weekend along the Batona trail that included a chance to climb the fire tower at Apple Pie Hill; and a winter fellowship weekend at Roosevelt Scout Reservation that included playing Magic, a Mario Cart tournament, and movie marathon.
THINK THAT SOUNDS LIKE FUN?
WE WOULD LOVE TO HAVE YOU JOIN US!
We meet every Monday evening from 7-8:30 in Fellowship Hall (no meeting on Easter Monday). Bring a friend and stop by!
