10mi through Valley Forge

We are back at Valley Forge National Park. After coming here during our last camping trip, Scouts who were working on hiking merit badge decided they wanted to see more of the park this time on foot. Five adults and three scouts (that’s an unusual combo for a hike), set out to complete a ten mile hike through the park. We walked on paved trails, very narrow dirt paths high above the river, hiked UP Mt Misery, and then walked down a ton of steps. We found amazing ruins with a spring. And finished the loop back at the Visitor’s Center where it all began. It was a very long day, and that mountain was brutal, but we got to see so much of the park and had a great time together working on the badge.

Hiking Merit Badge is one of the Eagle required badges. Scouts working towards Eagle rank have the choice of Hiking, Swimming, or Cycling. Three of our Scouts have chosen to complete the Hiking merit badge and will participate in several hikes this year to fulfill their requirements.
